Introduction:
This a new feature to keep members informed of the tasks carried in each month. I am hoping I can keep this up and it does not impinge on my time too much.
Recorded Issues
- Calls in December on the helpline have included coercive behaviour and family custody battles where allegations have been made and used for custody matters. Some cases referred to FASO and some to ‘Justice for Men’ organisation.
- In some cases of the above there has been police involvement and, through the advice of encouraging callers to stand up and fight their corner through active involvement of pre-charge engagement, some serious situations have been avoided.
- Two cases I have aided for complaints about solicitors to go the regulation authority. Some do not seem to care once the case is finished so thank goodness we have solicitors that will go the extra mile.
- Helpline calls coming through have numbered 93 in the last 3 months. This high number has resulted in some calls not being answered due to volume and time issues. The legal helpline has taken and responded to 33 calls.
- A call can last up to one hour and, on top of these recorded switchboard calls, there have been those who have requested a call back through email.
- Time has also gone on collating articles for FACT news and liaising with our editor Michael, who has done a splendid job on the latest edition.
- I have had zoom meetings with other organisations plus our own committee members.
- Progress is being made by Felicity and her extensive research into the myth that false allegations are rare, and she has now got some additional help from member Jack who joined us recently.
- Direct involvement in several cases this month, plus putting together an appeal for a tragic case has been demanding.
- I have had a number of changes to those members in prison. This is sometimes difficult to keep abreast of but very unimportant.
- FACT News has been distributed to all those in prison thanks to the help with postings from Ron and Gill who come to my home and packed these up with letters.
- Christmas cards have been sent by our card sending members to those in prison and two more people have signed up to be a writing buddy for those in prison. Feedback from those in prison is coming in, they are so grateful for the cards they have received.
- Four new members signed up.
Finally I take this opportunity to wish you all a hope filled 2026
All the best,
Brian
