According to an article in the Independent on 14th August, a daughter confessed in court that she had fabricated her claim that her father had raped her on eight occasions over several years. Until her barrister spotted that she used “certain words, phrases and descriptions which seemed beyond her years,” his situation seemed bleak.
On the day of the trial the father mentioned that his daughter’s favourite book was about “about a millionaire who takes a young woman under his wing and ‘teaches her about art’.”
The father’s barrister managed to persuade the judge to adjourn the case so she could read 50 Shades of Grey, and she recognized the similarity between the book and the daughter’s statement. She confronted her with this in court and this led to the confession.
