A supply teacher who shared messages on Facebook comparing Father Christmas to Satan and criticising homosexuality has been cleared of professional misconduct.
Alun Evans, an RE teacher with 24 years’ experience, shared and commented on Facebook posts which condemned abortion and said homosexuality was “an abomination to God.”
Mr Evans also published a status saying that Father Christmas was the devil in disguise because “Santa” was an anagram of “Satan.”
He did not know his Facebook posts could be seen by the public and would never have written them if he thought they were visible to pupils, the General Teaching Council for Wales heard.
“I was encouraging discussion and debate among friends. I did not intend to be disrespectful or offensive in any way. I would have nothing to gain from that,” Mr Evans told the hearing.
