Head, 54, bailed in sex case



THE headteacher at Malbank School and Sixth Form College, Allan Kettleday, has been arrested following allegations of indecent assault.Mr Kettleday, who has been head at Malbank for the past 14 years, has been placed on police bail until tomorrow while investigations are made into allegations that he indecently assaulted two girls under the age of 13.He is currently on sick leave from school with a long-standing ailment.Mr Kettleday said: ‘I would like to say something about this matter but I have been advised by the education authority to make no comment.’The medical condition through which I am currently off school with is very longstanding and pre-dates this business by about 30 years.’I have received many flowers, cards and letter of good wishes, not only from members of staff but parents and pupils.’Confirming the investigations, a Cheshire Police spokesman said yesterday: ‘The alleged incidents occurred between November 2003 and February 2005 at a school in the Nantwich area, and relate to the indecent assault of two girls under the age of 13. A 54-year-old man was arrested and released on police bail until April 21 pending further inquiries.’A spokesman for Cheshire County Council’s education department said: ‘We stress the individual has not been suspended and has not been charged.’A spokesman at Malbank School, which has more than 1,300 pupils, declined to comment except to say the school had received support for Mr Kettleday.
