Tories call for anonymity

Conservatives are calling for the Sexual Offences Bill to be amended so suspected child abusers and sex attackers are not named until they are charged.The Government has repeatedly stated its opposition to the move, and insists it will rely on tightening existing measures instead.Police are also against making special arrangements for suspected sex attackers. They say publicity can encourage other victims to come forward, possibly strengthening their case against a suspect.But Shadow Home Office minister Dominic Grieve said: “Recent events have once again demonstrated that publicity attached to individuals under investigation in rape cases, prior to being charged, is potentially very damaging to the interests of justice…
