Devon County Council was last night facing a compensation bill of £1.4 million to be paid to former pupils of a special school who suffered a catalogue of physical and sexual assaults.A total of 89 former pupils of Forde Park at Newton Abbot made claims for compensation over allegations of abuse covering a period of 25 years dating back as far as 1960.Some members of staff of the school, which has now been demolished, are now in prison for offences committed at the school.
