National Assembly Health and Social Services Secretary Jane Hutt today (Wednesday, 16 February) gave her initial response to the Waterhouse report in a statement to the Health and Social Services Committee. She said:
“I know that Assembly Members will have been shocked and appalled by the story this report has to tell. It graphically illustrates how the care system has failed children and young people in the past. The title of the report, Lost in Care, shows how the needs of many vulnerable children were ignored and abused. Their most basic human rights were violated. I would like to pay tribute to the courage of those who felt able to re-live these harrowing experiences in evidence to the Tribunal.”
